What is the exegesis of the verse: "So he made them fall by deceit. And when they tasted of the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise"? And were Adam and Eve covered then their nakedness became exposed? And what is concealment (ستر)? And was Eve Adam's wife in Paradise in the sense of conjugality, so they did not cover themselves from each other? And what are the narrations from the Qur'an and Sunnah regarding this?

The Almighty says: ﴿So he made them fall by deception. And when they tasted the tree, their private parts became manifest to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord called to them, "Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is to you a clear enemy?"﴾ [Al-A'raf: 22].

The verse indicates that Adam and Eve's private parts were not visible before they ate from the tree. Scholars differed on the nature of their clothing before the disobedience: some said it was like fingernails, others said it was light, and yet others said it was from the clothing of Paradise. However, what is agreed upon is that their private parts became manifest after the disobedience, as a result of their clothing being uncovered or the purity being removed from their bodies. As Qatadah, Al-Wahidi, and Ash-Shawkani reported, each of them could not see the other's private parts, nor their own.
