Abd al-Hamid ibn Badis al-Sanhaji (1889-1940 CE) was one of the reformist figures in Algeria. He memorized the Quran in his youth and studied under Sheikh Ahmad Abu Hamdan al-Wannisi. He distinguished himself by defending the demands of Muslims. He was a renovator and a reformer, a scholar who interpreted the Quran and Malik's Muwatta, and a politician who attacked French colonialism and elucidated the principles of Islamic politics. He was also an educator who founded and took an interest in schools, and he oversaw the affairs of the Association of Muslim Scholars and Al-Shihab magazine.
