How can a child be taught courage if he is afraid of everything?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Fear is natural in children, starting with a sudden noise, then strangers, then many things like animals. Females are more fearful, and fear increases with the child's imagination. Causes of fear include a mother frightening her child, excessive pampering, isolation, jinn stories, and acquiring fear from parents. To treat fear, a child must be raised to believe in Allah, given freedom and responsibility, not frightened, encouraged to socialize with others, allowed to become familiar with what frightens him, and taught stories of heroism. As for fear resulting from anxiety, its causes are burdening the child beyond his capacity, not fulfilling his need for success, excessive corporal punishment, and difficult living conditions. Fear should be natural, without exaggeration; it preserves the child's survival and instills fear of Allah and harming people.
