A husband must treat his wife kindly. Mistreating a wife does not help her fulfill her duties, but a woman should overcome such difficulties and uphold her responsibilities. A husband’s respect for his wife is a sign of his complete manhood and good character, and a woman’s preservation of her individuality is not arrogance.

Regarding a husband preventing his wife from studying: 1. If the wife stipulated this in the marriage contract: Scholars differed on the necessity of fulfilling it. 2. If no such condition was made: The husband has the right to prevent her if he is providing for her maintenance.

It is forbidden for a husband to use his wife's property (such as her car) without her consent. The wife is obliged to obey her husband if he prevents her from driving a car, because he has the right to prevent her from going out if he provides for her maintenance. If he falls short in providing maintenance, then she may go out to seek it.

The husband should help his wife be dutiful to and maintain ties with her mother, unless her visit causes harm to the husband, such as her family inciting her to disobey him. If the husband prevents his wife from visiting her family without a clear reason, then the wife is obliged to obey him. It is advisable to reach an understanding, speak kindly, and not be hasty.
