What is the Buraq Rock, and is it truly untouchable?

The rock known as the Dome of the Rock, upon which the Dome of the Rock stands in Jerusalem, was the Qibla (direction of prayer) for the Jews after Moses (peace be upon him), even though it was not by divine command but rather by their own ijtihad (independent reasoning).

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) tethered the Buraq to it on the night of Isra' (Night Journey). However, there are no authentic hadiths that prove any special virtue for it in Islam. All narrations regarding it are fabricated, such as it being Allah's lower throne.

As for the construction of the Dome upon it and its glorification, that occurred during the time of Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, to divert people from going to Mecca, which was then under the control of Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr. The Companions and the Rightly Guided Caliphs did not glorify it or specify it for worship.

What is said about it being impossible to touch, or that it is suspended between heaven and earth, is a blatant lie, and scholars have refuted these claims.
