The answer

A woman's claim that she has been divorced and her waiting period has ended is accepted as true, unless there is something suspicious. If she claims to be divorced from a specific husband, then evidence is required. If she is a stranger to the country, her word is accepted. But if she is from the country, her claim is not accepted without evidence. The current practice is that the judge does not marry someone whose previous marriage is proven and who claims to be divorced, until she provides a divorce certificate. If there is doubt about whether a woman is divorced, the children of the man in question should investigate the matter by asking about her and her first husband. If it becomes clear that she has not been divorced, they must inform their father of this, separate him from her, and refer the matter to the judge. They are not permitted to remain silent. However, they should respect their father's rights and ensure that their motive for disliking their stepmother is not personal matters, and they should fear Allah in accusing the innocent.
