What is the ruling on the prayer known as "the Mighty Prayer" (al-Salat al-Azeemiyyah), which some people recite aloud after the five daily prayers, after the funeral prayer, and during the burial of the deceased, and its text is: "O Allah, I ask You by the light of the Face of Allah the Mighty, which filled the corners of the Throne of Allah the Mighty, and by which the worlds of Allah the Mighty were established, to bless our master Muhammad, the possessor of mighty قدر (rank/destiny), and the family of the Prophet of Allah the Mighty, in proportion to the mightiness of the Essence of Allah the Mighty, in every blink and breath, as many as what is in the knowledge of Allah the Mighty, a perpetual prayer lasting as long as Allah the Mighty endures, in glorification of your right, O our master, O Muhammad, O possessor of mighty creation (khuluq), and grant him and his family peace likewise, and unite me with him as You united the spirit and the soul, outwardly and inwardly, awake and asleep, and make him, O Lord, a spirit for my being, in all aspects, in this world before the Hereafter, O Mighty One"?
The "Salat al-Adhimiyya" (Prayer of the Magnificent) is an innovation (bid'ah) and it is not permissible to worship through it. Some Sufi groups claim that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, taught it to their shaykh, which is ignorance and falsehood. Sheikh Abd al-Rahman Abd al-Khaliq has clarified the weakness of its wording and the errors in its meanings, such as addressing Allah in the third person (ghaybah), the repetitive mention of the name "Al-Adhim" (The Magnificent) without proper context, describing the Throne as having pillars, and the supplication for the supplicant to be gathered with the Messenger "just as the spirit and the soul were gathered," and the notion that the Messenger is "the spirit of the supplicant's essence." All of this is an transgression in supplication and opens the door to claiming knowledge of the unseen and fabricating lies about Allah. It is obligatory to be wary of innovations and to follow the guidance of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, for he has clarified all that servants need.
