What is your guidance regarding someone who taunts a sick person by saying that their illness is a punishment from Allah due to a sin they committed?

It is not permissible for brothers to taunt a person afflicted with an ailment for their affliction, or to accuse them of having it due to their sins. Calamities and tribulations are of two types: punishment for sins and acts of disobedience, as stated in His (Allah's) Almighty words: "And whatever strikes you of disaster - it is because of what your hands have earned, and He pardons much." And a trial of love and pleasure, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "When Allah wills good for someone, He afflicts him." And "When Allah loves a people, He afflicts them." Based on this, it is not permissible for anyone to assert one of the two possibilities without evidence, otherwise, they would be among those of whom Allah said: "And do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge."
