Will I be held accountable for not loving my husband and for hating him, and is a person rewarded for enduring what they cannot bear in marriage?
Allah has promised a great reward to those who are patient. Not all homes are built on love, but rather on generosity and respect. Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said, "Not all homes are built on love, but rather on companionship based on lineage and Islam." Love varies among people.
It is advised to cultivate love towards one's husband through affection and kindness, and to overlook his shortcomings. Know that patience comes through enduring.
If you are fulfilling your husband's rights, Allah will not punish you for not loving him, as this is not within your control, for Allah the Almighty says: (Allah does not burden a soul beyond its its capacity) [Quran 2:286].
However, if the lack of love leads to a deficiency in religious practice or the neglect of the husband's rights, then it is permissible to seek divorce or annulment (khul'), as did the wife of Thabit ibn Qays when she disliked him and sought separation. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to her, "Will you return his garden to him?" She said, "Yes." He then said, "Accept the garden and divorce her with one pronouncement." And for Allah the Almighty's saying: (But if they separate [by divorce], Allah will enrich each of them from His abundance. And ever is Allah all-Encompassing and Wise) [Quran 4:130].
