What is the religious ruling on seeking information about permits for serving alcohol for a hotel, knowing that obtaining this information may lead to a request to initiate procedures for acquiring them, and that refusing to do so may lead to losing one's job?

It is not permissible to cooperate with the manager in gathering information about official bodies that license the sale of alcoholic beverages, if the purpose is to purchase, license, and provide them to customers. This is because it constitutes aiding in sin and transgression. Allah Almighty says: (And do not cooperate in sin and aggression), and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed alcohol and those who cooperate in its trade.

It is not permissible to drink alcohol or to aid in its consumption in any way. Gathering information is considered a form of aid. You are not permitted to do this, even if it leads to your dismissal from work, unless you are in dire need of earning your daily sustenance and cannot find any other work. In that case, it is permissible only to the extent of fulfilling that dire need. If the need ceases, it is not permissible to continue in that work, even if it leads to dismissal.
