Is it permissible for a mother to sign a pledge not to marry again in order to remain in the marital home after being irrevocably divorced (by three pronouncements), or must she leave it for the divorce to be complete?

Scholars have differed regarding the maintenance and housing of a irrevocably divorced woman. The prevailing fatwa is that she is not entitled to maintenance or housing, unless she is the custodian of the husband's child; in which case, the preponderant opinion is that he is obligated to provide her with housing in a reasonable manner. The husband is not required to house her in a privately owned dwelling; rather, it is permissible to house her in an endowed, rented, or borrowed property. The maintenance and housing of minor children who have no wealth of their own are obligatory upon their father in a reasonable manner. As for adult children who are not incapacitated, their maintenance is not obligatory upon their father according to the majority of scholars. If the father agrees to house the mother in his home on the condition that she does not remarry, there is no objection to that.
