What is the ruling on creating inanimate cartoon characters (cubes, cylinders, rectangles) that only have eyes, a mouth, and hair made of wool, for the purpose of instilling correct Islamic creed, concepts, and ethics in the hearts of children?

The majority of scholars have made an exception to the prohibition of creating images for those intended for children, for their education and entertainment, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) permission for Aisha to play with dolls. This permissibility is further affirmed if the images are incomplete, such that they do not constitute a real human or animal.
