It is permissible for someone other than the father to perform Aqiqah for the newborn if the father falls short, refuses, or if the father grants permission to someone else, based on the Aqiqah performed by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, for Al- and Al-Husayn. The mother is not obligated to perform Aqiqah, but it is recommended for her to do so if the father refuses or is unable. As for the in the newborn's ear, no authentic has been reported concerning it, even though some jurists consider it recommended. It is permissible for a woman to do it because it is not like the adhan for prayer.
