What is the ruling on working for a company that provides an electronic payment system supporting interest-based and ordinary installments, where the responsibility for the system involves maintenance, updates, monitoring, and troubleshooting, knowing that the percentage of interest-based transactions ranges between 15-30%? Is it permissible to work in maintaining, updating, and monitoring a system that contains a percentage of interest-based transactions, and is it necessary to investigate the nature of problems related to usury before solving them?
It is not permissible to work in any job connected to usury (riba) or that aids it, due to the Almighty's saying: "And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression" (Quran 5:2), and due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) cursed the one who consumes riba, the one who feeds it, its scribe, and its two witnesses. And he said: they are all equal." This includes the prohibition of working on programs that support usurious transactions, whether small or large. If the work is not related to usury, but then a problem arises that is connected to it, one must refrain from solving it.
