Is it permissible to spend Zakat money on purchasing a computer device to be given to a student of knowledge for his use in Da‘wah (Islamic proselytizing), with his pledge not to use it for anything forbidden?

It is permissible to use zakat funds to purchase a computer for trustworthy students of knowledge, for them to use it in da'wah (inviting to Islam), preparing lectures, conducting Islamic research, benefiting and sharing knowledge through websites and forums, downloading beneficial Islamic materials, and similar activities. This is because spending on seeking knowledge is considered spending in the way of Allah, as stated in the verse: (Indeed, [prescribed] charitable donations are only to be given to the poor and the needy, and to those who work on [administering] them, and to those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and to [free] those in bondage, and to the debt-ridden, and in the way of Allah, and to the wayfarer; [this is] an obligation from Allah. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.) [Al-Tawbah/60]. The jurists have agreed on the permissibility of giving zakat to a student of knowledge. Some of them even permit taking it even if he is wealthy, provided he dedicates himself to knowledge and is unable to earn a living, because [the computer] has become like a book in being a means for seeking knowledge and inviting to Allah.
