Scholars have differed regarding the name "al-Mun'im" (the Bestower of Favors) as to whether it is among the names of Allah the Almighty. Some have counted it, while others have not. It is more prudent not to be named "Abd al-Mun'im" (Servant of the Bestower) to avoid this disagreement. As for common names that are applied to Allah and to His creation, such as "Kareem" (Generous) and "Raheem" (Merciful), it is permissible to be named with them, such as "Abd al-Kareem" (Servant of the Generous), or for a creature to be described with them, such as "a generous man."
