Is a man obligated to borrow money to bring his mother to America? Is he required to spend on her while he is in debt, taking into consideration his father's comfortable financial situation and his own need for money due to the anticipation of a new baby?

It is permissible for a son to take out a loan to bring his mother to visit him, due to the filial piety involved, which may open doors of goodness and provision for him, as Allah Almighty says: "And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out And will provide for him from where he does not expect." The mother's expenses are obligatory upon the father, but the son should not be blamed for taking out a loan to financially assist his mother if he hopes to repay the debt, provided that this does not come at the expense of neglecting the rights of his wife and children. And the wife should assist her husband in honoring his mother. One is warned against traveling to and residing in non-Muslim lands due to the religious and moral harms that result from them, unless there is a necessity or a recognized need.
