Is it permissible to marry a suitor who combines all prayers upon his arrival, prays Fajr after sunrise, relies on an alarm clock to wake up for work but not for prayer, and delays prayers until after he returns from work, given that the fiancée is committed, maintains her prayers, and desires to marry to draw closer to Allah?

If the marriage contract has not yet been concluded, it is better to wait until the suitor's good character becomes clear. However, if the contract has been concluded, the husband's negligence in prayer is a valid reason for the wife to seek *khul'* (divorce at the wife's instance) or *talaq (definition)* (repudiation by the husband); as Allah Almighty says: "If she dislikes her husband's character or disposition, or his religious shortcomings, or fears committing a sin by neglecting his rights, *khul'* is permissible." Many jurists are of the opinion that a transgressor (*fasiq*) is not a suitable match for a righteous woman. It is better to seek separation as long as the matter is in its early stages and there are no children. If he does not agree to *talaq* or *khul'*, then the matter should be brought before the Sharia (definition) court.
