Some Companions shortened their prayers during travel for more than a year. It was narrated that Anas ibn Malik resided in Nishapur for two years, praying two rak'ahs. And it was narrated that Abd al-Rahman ibn Samurah stayed in Persia for two years, neither combining prayers nor praying more than two rak'ahs.
