Is placing fresh palm fronds on a grave a Sunnah that alleviates the suffering of the deceased until they dry, by analogy with the action of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? And is this specific or general?

Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by two graves whose occupants were being tormented. He took a fresh palm branch and split it, planting half in each grave, and said: "May it alleviate their suffering as long as they do not dry out." Some scholars have denounced the practice of placing palm branches on graves based on this hadith, explaining that this was specific to the blessing of the Prophet's hand, peace and blessings be upon him, or because he alluded to a torment that only he knew about. Others believe that this action was not necessarily exclusive to him, peace and blessings be upon him, and that Ibn al-Husayb (may Allah be pleased with him) recommended placing two palm branches on his grave. The more prominent view is that this action was specific to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
