Is reciting the Qur’an when burying the deceased, and raising hands in supplication for him, for his family, and for the Muslims, then wiping the face after burial, part of the Sunnah of the Prophet, or not? And what is the Sunnah in this regard?

The preponderant opinion among scholars is that the reward for reciting the Quran reaches the deceased if the living dedicates it to them. However, reciting the Quran at the grave, especially during burial, is not legislated because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not do so. Supplicating for the deceased after burial is legislated based on the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Ask forgiveness for your brother and ask for steadfastness for him, for indeed he is now being questioned." There is nothing in the hadith to indicate that the supplication was congregational. As for wiping the face after supplication, it is a matter of scholarly disagreement, and piety dictates not wiping the face due to the weakness of the hadith reported concerning it and its lack of prevalence among the early generations (Salaf).
