Is facing the Prophet's grave, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, while supplicating and raising one's hands part of the Sunnah?

What some visitors do by seeking supplication at the grave of the Prophet (peace be upon him), facing the grave and raising their hands, is contrary to the guidance of the righteous predecessors and is considered an innovation (bid'ah). This is based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Hold fast to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly-guided Caliphs after me. Beware of newly invented matters, for every newly invented matter is an innovation, and every innovation is misguidance."

Likewise, Ali ibn al-Husayn Zayn al-Abidin prohibited a man from supplicating at the Prophet's (peace be upon him) grave, citing the Hadith: "Do not turn my grave into a place of celebration, and do not turn your homes into graves. Send blessings upon me, for your greetings reach me wherever you are."

As for placing the right hand over the left, like a worshiper in prayer, when greeting the Prophet (peace be upon him), this is not permissible, because it is a posture of humility, submission, and worship that is only befitting for Allah.
