Is photography forbidden in Islam, and if so, how can one explain the appearance of sheikhs on television, given that this involves photography? And how can something be forbidden when it did not exist during the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him?

Scholars differed concerning the ruling on photographing animate beings. Some prohibited it, while others permitted it. As for the appearance of scholars on television, according to the opinion that permits photographic imaging with its controls, there is no impediment to it. Rather, it is Islamically desirable due to the definite benefit it contains in guiding people and answering their questions, and so that this media outlet is not left to the propagators of falsehood.
