What is the ruling on a father preventing his 16-year-old daughter from continuing her education, under the pretext of protecting her from the evils of society?
A father's prevention of his daughter from studying in co-educational schools, in order to protect her from corruption, is a sound decision and one that Allah has enjoined upon him for the care of his family. Allah Almighty says: (O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones). And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "And a man is a guardian over his family and is responsible for his subjects."
The father must teach his daughter matters of her religion, and there is no harm in her studying in girls' schools with sound curricula. As for co-educational or deviant schools in their curricula, it is not permissible to study in them due to the danger they pose to one's religion and morals.
All of you must obey your father in what he commands of obedience to Allah; for Allah has enjoined upon you to obey him in what is good.
