Why did Ibn Uthaymeen affirm movement concerning Allah, despite our saying: "Movement is a necessity for descending among humans, but nothing is necessary for Allah, and He is in need of nothing, so we affirm that He descends however He wills"?
The method of Sheikh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen regarding the chapter on Names and Attributes is the method of Ahlus- wal-Jamaa‘ah (the People of the Sunnah and the Community), which is based on believing in what Allah has described Himself with and what His Messenger has described Him with, without takyeef (asking 'how'), or tamtheel (likening Him to creation), or tahreef (distortion), or ta‘teel (negation). The attributes of Allah are real in their true sense and do not resemble the attributes of created beings. As for those who deny some attributes on the pretext of invalid implications, the response is to negate the implication, or to say that the implication is not binding on the one who affirms the attribute. If the implication of truth is indeed true, then it must be adhered to. As for ambiguous terms that are not found in the Qur’an and Sunnah (such as tahayyuz [occupying space], harakah [movement], intiqal [relocation], and jism [body]), they are neither affirmed nor negated; rather, clarification is sought from the one who utters them. It is necessary to adhere to what the Salaf (pious predecessors) were upon in this chapter.
