Is it permissible to supplicate for guidance to the correct belief, even if it differs from the belief of the Salaf, and is such a supplication considered disbelief or a violation of the creed?

One must differentiate between "Salafiyyah" as a group, and the "Pious Predecessors" (Salaf al-Salih) who represent the correct creed built upon the Qur'an and Sunnah. It is obligatory for a Muslim to believe in the creed of the Companions, the Tabi'in (successors), and those who followed them in goodness, for it is the path to salvation. Believing in what the Companions believed in is a condition for guidance, and doubt in this principle is a defect in faith. One must adhere to the truth that the Pious Predecessors were upon and reject every belief that contradicts it. The supplication mentioned is not disbelief, but it indicates doubt in the creed of the Salaf. It is better to supplicate with what the Prophet (peace be upon him) taught us: "O Allah, guide me and make me steadfast," and the supplication of Abu Bakr: "O Allah, show me the truth as truth and grant me its following, and show me falsehood as falsehood and grant me its avoidance, and do not make it confusing for me, lest I go astray." Whoever sincerely seeks guidance with a sincere heart, Allah will guide him, for Allah guides those who strive for His sake. One must be wary of the whispers of Satan.
