Is wiping over a tissue permissible when performing ablution?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The majority of scholars are of the opinion that it is not permissible for a woman to wipe over her khimar (head covering) during ablution unless there is a necessity. Ibn Qudamah, in Al-Mughni, mentioned two narrations within the Hanbali school of thought: one that permits wiping over the khimar by analogy with the turban, and another that prohibits it. Imam Ahmad holds the view that a woman should wipe beneath her khimar and not over it. It was also mentioned that Umm Salamah used to wipe over her khimar. Based on this, a woman should avoid wiping over her khimar in the future, and she must repeat the prayers she performed with ablution in which she wiped over her khimar.
