It is permissible to wipe over a head covering (liffafa) that is difficult to remove, placed on the head, as a concession and to alleviate hardship, by analogy with wiping over a turban for a man. It is a condition that the head covering be something that is difficult to remove, and that most of it is wiped over. The preponderant opinion is that it is not a condition for placing it that one be in a state of ritual purity (tahara), nor is it restricted by a specific time. However, it is more cautious to place it while in a state of ritual purity and to observe the duration of wiping over leather socks (khuffayn), which is one day and one night for a resident.
