Is it true that matters such as extreme anger, extreme joy, extreme sadness, crying, fear, excessive panic, excessive thinking and obsessive whispering, anxiety, despair, isolation, negative thoughts, and sins, invalidate and nullify spiritual protection (tahseen), given that it is said this has been proven by experience?
Satan strives to penetrate the human heart when it is weak, embellishing evil for it. Islamic law calls for self-control and control over one's actions. Allah Almighty says: ﴿So that you do not grieve over what has escaped you, nor rejoice over what He has given you﴾ [Al-Hadid: 23]. It also commands patience and abstaining from anger. The aforementioned emotions weaken the heart and make it vulnerable to Satan's domination, but to say that they completely invalidate the spiritual protection (tahsin) is incorrect, as a degree of protection remains commensurate with one's struggle against the self. Proving this through experience is difficult, as it relates to an unseen matter. The weakening of the tahsin's effect may be due to heedlessness of the heart or impediments such as consuming unlawful things.
