What is the basis of reliability for the banner of “Al-Uqab” (the Eagle) (a black flag with "La ilaha illa Allah" written on it), and how should one deal with those who stir up discord concerning it?

It was narrated from Ibn Abbas that the banner of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was black and his standard was white, with "There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah" written on it. However, this chain of narration is weak. It has been authentically established through sound chains of narration that his (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) banner was black and his standard was white, without mentioning any writing. The banner might have been square and its color inclined towards black, or its color was like that of a leopard. There is also a narration indicating a yellow banner, but its chain of narration is weak.

The banner and standard are specific to wars and Jihad, and there is no text that mandates a specific color or form for them.

Contemporary flags represent nations and earn respect according to their conformity with Islamic law (Sharia). Efforts should be directed towards modifying the state system to conform to Sharia, rather than focusing on the flag's design.

Stirring up discord over flag designs does not serve the Ummah; rather, it harms it. Young people should be engaged with dialogue and gentleness, and efforts should be directed towards inviting people to Allah and clarifying the truth of the religion, while considering priorities and wisdom in handling matters.
