Is one who does good deeds in Ramadan with the sole intention of fasting sinful, or will he not be rewarded?

If a Muslim loves to occupy their time in Ramadan (definition) with charitable deeds, there is no sin upon them as long as they do not intend hypocrisy (riya'), and it is hoped that Allah will reward them for it. Some scholars have mentioned that one who performs deeds beneficial to creation will be rewarded, even if they do not explicitly bring to mind the intention, as long as they do not intend other than Allah with their deed. This is supported by the hadith (definition): "There is no Muslim who plants a tree or cultivates a crop, and a bird, human, or animal eats from it, but it will be charity for him," and the hadith of the prostitute who gave water to a dog, and Allah forgave her.
