The answer

Calamities and misfortunes occur by the decree and preordainment of Allah as a test and trial for the believers. Whoever endures with patience and seeks Allah’s reward, Allah will compensate him, raise his ranks, and expiate his sins. But whoever shows impatience and discontent is not truthful in his faith, and his recompense will be in accordance with his actions. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, the greatest reward comes with the greatest trial. And indeed, when Allah loves a people, He tests them. So whoever is content, for him is contentment; and whoever is discontent, for him is discontent." Trials distinguish the wicked from the good, and the truthful from the liar.
