What is the ruling on one who has broken multiple oaths and does not possess enough to feed ten poor persons for each oath, and is he required to take on debt, or is fasting sufficient, and what should he do if it is impossible to find the poor?

It is not permissible to resort to fasting as expiation for an oath except when unable to feed, clothe, or free a slave. If you are poor and do not possess money for feeding or clothing, or anything beyond your sustenance for a day and a night, then you may resort to fasting. Some jurists hold the view that whoever is eligible to receive zakat may resort to fasting. You are not required to borrow money to offer expiation by feeding or clothing, unless you find someone who will lend to you and you are able to repay, or if you have absent wealth that allows you to borrow and offer expiation.
