What is the ruling on broth, stew, tomatoes or sauce, onions, and other ingredients cooked with rice and meat prepared to feed ten poor people as expiation for an oath; do they fall under the category of feeding [the poor] and is it permissible to give them to the poor?

If you give each of the ten needy people a mudd of rice (750 grams) with meat, that is sufficient. Some scholars are of the opinion that it is obligatory to give two mudds (one and a half kilograms) of rice if it is not wheat, and this is more cautious. You are not obliged to give the needy what they ask for. For the expiation of an oath, it is sufficient to give one mudd of the staple food of the people of the land. If you wish to expiate by providing cooked food, it is only sufficient to provide a lunch and a dinner meal for each needy person.
