What is the ruling on praying with the two following formulas: "O Allah, grant a perfect prayer and a complete peace upon our master Muhammad, the Prophet by whom knots are untied, hardships are relieved, needs are fulfilled, desires and good ends are attained, and clouds are made to rain by his noble face," and "O Allah, pray upon our master Muhammad, the light of insights and their glow, the medicine of hearts and their cure, and the health of bodies and their healing..."? And what is the ruling on praying behind an Imam who supplicates with them?

Persevering in congregational supplication after the obligatory prayer is an innovated bid‘ah. The complete or “fiery” صيغة of Salawat has not been authentically transmitted from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and it contains false meanings. Praying behind an imam who recites it is valid as long as he does not believe that the Messenger is endowed with attributes of Lordship. The latter صيغة of Salawat upon the Prophet includes meanings that suggest exaggeration (ghuluww), so it is not appropriate to utter such meanings or pray with that صيغة. Restricting oneself to the authentically transmitted صيغ is better and safer.
