Is it permissible for a husband – who does not deal justly between his two wives, deprives his second wife and her son of maintenance, takes her kitchen furniture and gives it to his first wife, and spends holidays and occasions with his first wife and their children under the pretext of not wanting to change their routine – to consider himself just?

It is obligatory for the husband to provide an independent dwelling for his wife. If he provides her with an independent place with its facilities within his own dwelling, then he has fulfilled his obligation. It is not permissible for the husband to replace his wife's furniture with old furniture if she owns it, and he must return it or its value. The husband's prolonged stay with his first wife and children during the other wife's turn is an injustice, for justice in division and overnight stay is obligatory. It is not permissible for the husband to go to his other wife during the other wife's turn except out of need or necessity, and he must not prolong his stay, otherwise he must make up for that time for the one whose turn it was. The wife is advised to be patient and gently remind her husband of the obligation of justice, and to supplicate to Allah.
