Is it permissible for a husband to prevent his wife from performing supererogatory prayers (Nawafil), Umrah, and Tasbeeh, and will the wife be rewarded for what she intended to do but was prevented from doing by her husband due to her obedience to him?
A husband has a great right over his wife, and she must obey him unless he commands her to commit a sin. Therefore, she is not permitted to observe a supererogatory fast or perform a supererogatory Hajj except with his permission, and similar acts that might infringe upon his rights. As for acts that do not infringe upon his rights, such as prayer and remembrance of God (dhikr), he should not prevent her from performing them. Indeed, obeying her husband is one of the greatest acts of proximity to Allah for a woman after her obligatory duties. If a woman fulfills her obligatory duties and obeys her husband, she will enter Paradise from whichever gate she pleases. As for a woman whom her husband prevents from performing a supererogatory act, she will be credited with the reward for that supererogatory act and the reward for her obedience to her husband if her intention is sincere.
