Is the hair of a baby girl shaved for charity?

Scholars differed concerning the ruling on shaving the hair of a newborn female:

The Shafi'is and Malikis: They hold that it is Sunnah, citing as evidence Fatimah's weighing the hair of Al-Hasan, Al-Husayn, Zaynab, and Umm Kulthum, and her giving in charity the equivalent weight in silver. This is also for the benefit of giving charity and the hair becoming beautiful afterwards. The Hanbalis: They do not consider shaving the hair of a female permissible, citing as evidence the hadith of Samurah ibn Jundub and Abu Hurayrah, which refer to shaving the head of a male child. The Hanafis: They hold that shaving the hair of a newborn on the seventh day after birth is permissible, but not Sunnah or obligatory.
