Is it permissible for a husband to divorce his wife who insists on working in a mixed environment despite his disapproval, knowing that he believes she might betray him, and that her family is strongly attached to her working?

A wife must obey her husband in what is right. She should reside where he resides and stop working if he forbids it, unless she stipulated otherwise in the marriage contract. If the work involves mixing with the opposite sex or any Shariah violation, she must leave it. Her refusal to obey is considered 'nushuz' (disobedience) and should be addressed through the prescribed Shariah steps, with divorce being the last resort. The husband has the right to restrict her and prevent her from seeking divorce until she offers him a compensation if she insists on her 'nushuz'. Obedience to the husband takes precedence over obedience to parents when there is a conflict.
