What is the ruling regarding the days I have fasted, and what should I do now? Should I continue fasting or break it and clothe ten indigent persons, after I intended to fast six days as expiation for two oaths, and on the fourth day of fasting, I remembered that I have enough clothes to clothe ten indigent persons?

Fasting is not sufficient for an expiation of an oath except in cases of inability to feed, clothe, or free a slave. So, whoever is able to perform one of these three types (like clothing), fasting is not sufficient for him, and what he has fasted is not counted, and the expiation remains his responsibility. It is a condition for the inability to pay the expiation that it continues until the completion of the fast. If the inability ceases during the fast due to the availability of money, the fast is not sufficient for him, and the original expiation becomes obligatory upon him. Also, it is a condition for clothing that it be suitable for average people and usable.
