What is the ruling on listening to the serene, melodious recitation of Egyptian shaykhs, as opposed to the chanting recitation used in prayer?

It is permissible to listen to reciters when their recitation is calm, as long as it does not reach the point of melodic singing (talheen). Most Egyptian reciters who perform tajweed recitation are among the best people in terms of recitation. It was narrated that the scholar Al-Uthaymeen loved Sheikh Abdul Basit's recitation, and Sheikh Ibn Baz said about Sheikh Al-Minshawi: "He is the voice one never tires of listening to."
