What is the reason for not feeling encouraged and welcomed when hearing the Qur'an, and for feeling distressed by the recitation of shaykhs who weep during their recitation, given the frequent listening to songs, and what is the solution?

Frequent listening to songs and musical instruments may hinder the enjoyment of listening to the Qur'an, for the love of the Book of Allah and the love of musical tunes cannot coexist in one heart. One must repent from listening to musical instruments and strive against the self to love what pleases Allah. If the intention is sincere, Allah will replace the love of musical instruments with the love of listening to the Qur'an and tasting the delight of supplicating Him. Weeping during the recitation of the Qur'an is permissible and praiseworthy, provided it is not for show, as stated in His Almighty saying: "Indeed, those who were given knowledge before it - when it is recited to them, they fall upon their faces in prostration, and say, 'Exalted is our Lord! Indeed, the promise of our Lord has been fulfilled.' And they fall upon their faces weeping, and it increases them in humility." One should not be annoyed by the weeping of a Qur'an reciter; rather, it should be a means for contemplation and remembrance, in fulfillment of His Almighty saying: "A Book We have sent down to you, full of blessings, that they may ponder over its verses, and that those of understanding may take heed."
