ما هو شرح الحديث: "ويلٌ للنساء منَ الأحمرين الذهب والمعصفر"؟

The Hadith: "Woe to women from the two reds: gold and safflower-dyed clothes," was narrated by Ibn Hibban. Its chain of narration was deemed weak by Al-Iraqi and Al-Manawi, while Al-Albani and Al-Arna'ut considered it good (hasan). Safflower-dyed clothes (mu'asfar) refers to garments dyed with safflower. The intended meaning of the Hadith, assuming its authenticity, is a warning against women being tempted by gold and safflower-dyed (or saffron-dyed) clothes, which could lead to ostentatious display (tabarruj) and tempting men, not a prohibition of permissible adornment. This is similar to the warning against the temptation of spouses and children, despite their permissibility.
