What is the crime that comes in the first degree after murder?
The has prohibited crimes and sins, including major sins (al-kaba'ir), the greatest of which are the seven destructive sins (al-sab' al-mubiqat) mentioned by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: associating partners with Allah (), sorcery (sihr), killing a soul which Allah has forbidden except by right, consuming usury (riba), consuming the property of an orphan, turning away on the day of battle, and slandering chaste, unsuspecting, believing women.
The greatest of these destructive sins is associating partners with Allah, for Allah Almighty says: "Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills." (Quran 4:48). This is followed by sorcery, because it is a type of disbelief (kufr), then killing a soul due to its corruption on earth. The remaining sins may be ordered according to what is mentioned in the , presenting the greater first.
