Is it permissible to spend usurious money on pets and the like?

Usurious gains are forbidden and considered grave sins. It is not permissible to deal with them, even if the person involved intends not to benefit from them and to spend them on charitable causes. Whoever has engaged in this forbidden transaction and wishes to repent must dispose of these gains by giving them to the poor and needy, or by spending them on charitable projects such as hospitals and schools. If a Muslim is compelled to take usurious interest or repents from it, it is obligatory for him to spend it on charitable causes. It is permissible to spend it on pets if it is for the purpose of charity and mercy and to meet their needs, as there is reward in that. However, if the spending is for luxury and extravagance, it is not permissible. It is preferable to spend these funds on the general and specific interests of Muslims, especially given the large number of those in need.
