What is the ruling on one who fasted the obligatory sacrifice (hady) days after the passing of the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah and the month of Dhul-Hijjah, assuming that "three days during Hajj" meant in the month of Dhul-Hijjah and not during the days of Hajj, and fasted them along with the other seven days after returning to his homeland?
The jurists have agreed that if a mutamatti' (one performing umrah followed by hajj in the same journey) cannot find a sacrificial animal (hady), he should fast for three days during the Hajj and seven days upon his return, in accordance with the noble verse: "But whoever cannot find [one] - then a fast of three days during Hajj and seven when you have returned. Those are ten complete [days]." It is permissible to fast the three days during the Ayyam al-Tashreeq (days of Tashreeq) or before them, after entering ihram for umrah, and they should not be delayed beyond that. As for the remaining seven days, he should fast them after returning to his family, either consecutively or separately. If he did not fast the three days during Hajj, he must make them up (qada') and, if it was without a valid excuse, he must repent. If he was unable to fast at the prescribed time, he should make them up whenever he can, even after returning to his country. So, whoever fasts the ten days has fulfilled what was obligatory upon him.
