What should a person do who broke their fast in Ramadan by sexual intercourse and does not know the number of days they broke it, while committing to repentance and regret, based on your fatwa number 2231 which obligates fasting two consecutive months for each day?

He who is ignorant of the number of days he broke his fast by intercourse in Ramadan must make up for those days (qada’) and offer expiation (kaffarah) until he is reasonably certain that he has fasted the number of days for which he is accountable. The fact that a person is remorseful and determined not to repeat the act does not relieve him of expiation or making up the fast, because two things are required of him: sincere repentance and making up the fast along with expiation. If he is unable to expiate by fasting, he must expiate by feeding the poor.
