What should one do who has had intercourse during the daytime in Ramadan and is unable to fast consecutively, does not own a slave to free, does not possess enough to feed his family, and has 7 days of make-up fasts from previous Ramadans? And how does one repent from this sin?
Sexual intercourse during the daytime in Ramadan is forbidden. Whoever engages in it intentionally must repent, make up the missed fast, and offer expiation (kaffarah), which is: freeing a slave, or fasting for two consecutive months, or feeding sixty poor people for each day on which intercourse occurred. If one is unable to offer the expiation, it remains a debt upon them. As for the compliant woman, she is only required to make up the fast, which is the more apparent view, and there is no expiation upon her. It is obligatory to hasten in making up the missed days. If the delay in making them up is due to negligence, then both of you must offer expiation for the delay in addition to making up the fast.
