What is the solution for someone who has to make up 60 days of fasting but has not done so, and another Ramadan has passed, knowing that he violated the sanctity of fasting on a day in Ramadan?

Whoever invalidates his fast by sexual intercourse while a resident and without an excuse, then he must make up the fast he invalidated and offer a major expiation (freeing a slave; if unable, then fasting sixty consecutive days; if unable, then feeding sixty poor people). No fidyah (definition) (expiatory payment) is required for delaying the expiatory fast, only sin. As for whoever invalidates his fast by something other than sexual intercourse (such as eating, drinking, masturbation, thought, or looking), he must make up the fast along with repentance and seeking forgiveness. The major expiation is not required of him according to the majority of scholars. However, a minor expiation is required of him if he delays making up the fast until after the following Ramadan (definition).
