What is the ruling on shunning a mother who refuses to see her daughter and refuses to accept her gifts, especially given that this shunning occurred after family disputes and caused psychological harm to the daughter?
The mother holds a great status, and her right over her children is immense. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, enjoined good treatment of the mother three times before the father. The questioner should strive to please her mother, and if there has been any shortcoming, she and her husband should apologize without shame. If there has been no shortcoming, she should seek to understand the reasons for her mother's anger, endeavor to clarify the truth, seek assistance from someone held in high regard by her mother, and frequently supplicate for her guidance. There is no blame upon her if she does not go to her mother if she fears that greater harm may result from it.
